The Junior BranchThe Junior Branch of the Clongowes Union was founded to develop the interests of the recent past pupils of Clongowes. It comprises the ten most recent years to have graduated from the College (though any events organised by the Junior Branch are not exclusive to those years). Each Rhetoric year is represented on the Junior Branch committee.
Representives from the ten years frequently meet to organise events such as the Junior Branch Poker night and the annual summer Soccer Blitz. Over the last few years, the annual Soccer Blitz has been a great success, with over 100 Old Clongownians returning to the College for a chance to compete for this most Holy Grail of soccer prizes!
These events facilitate the reunion of old friends (and rivals) in an informal setting. We are constantly looking for ideas to keep the Junior Branch active. If you need more information or have any such ideas, please do not hesitate to contact James McElwee on 087 290 2675.
Apart from organising social reunions, the Junior Branch also provides volunteers and fundraising for the Clongowes Youth Club. Several Old Clongownians give one evening of their week to work in the Youth Club and maintain it as an important aspect of Junior Branch activities. Since 2002, we have also sent volunteers, with the help of the Jesuit Community, to Fr. Jean Magnan's Romanian project, Satu Mare, to help out for a few weeks every summer. |
